The Wapakoneta Redskins used a pair of eight-run innings as part of two wins by run-rule Saturday against the Lima Senior Spartans in a non-league varsity baseball doubleheader at Wapakoneta High School.
The Redskins posted eight runs in the fourth inning in Game 1 in a 15-5 victory in five innings.
Wapakoneta junior Adam Henderson smashed a two-run homer in the fourth inning of the first game.
Logan Martin scored the first and last run of the fourth. He led the inning with a double and walked in his second plate appearance.
After a double by Quinn Lotridge and a single by Henderson, Wapak got on the scoreboard first in Game 1 on a Chandler Kaeck two-run double.
Chace Culver and Nate Kaeck each added RBI singles in the fifth to complete the run-rule.
Redskins junior Zach Golliday threw all five innings to earn the win. Golliday struck out nine, allowing seven hits, five earned runs and three walks.
In the second game, Redskins senior Jake Bruns was one out away from throwing a perfect game before Khiry Williams lined a ball to center field where Quinn Lotridge narrowly missed catching the line drive to seal the perfect game, as Williams doubled.
Bruns struck out the next hitter to end the game, clinching a one-hit shutout in a five-inning 14-0 win. Bruns fanned six of the 16 batters he faced.
The Redskins had no issue with Lima Senior pitching.
Wapak made 12 plate appearances in the second inning, during which eight runs were scored on four hits and four errors.
Henderson went 3 for 3 and scored three times, with a two-run single in the second inning. Jarrett Koch also scored three runs.
Kodi Morgan notched three RBIs, going 2 for 2.
Wapakoneta has now won three straight games.
The Redskins will be in action today in a non-league road contest against the New Bremen Cardinals.View more articles in:
