After the preliminary round of the Ohio state swimming tournament one Wapakoneta Redskin swimmer has made it to day two of competition.
Wapakoneta High School sophomore Josie Miller swam her 50-yard freestyle in a time of 24.29 seconds to earn the fifth seed in the event for the Friday finals.
Macie McNichols of Gilmour High School grabbed the top seed in the race with a time of 23.36.
Miller is competing for the second consecutive year at state swim meet. Last year, she also competed in the 50 freestyel. Miller also competed in the 100 Free at the state tournament, but failed to make it to day two of racing. She finished in a time of 54.77.
The top seed in the 100 freestyle, Hannah Stevens of Lexington, finished in 50.22.
The three Wapakoneta Redskin relay teams that went to state to try and advance to the next round came up short in their events.
The boys 200 freestyle relay, the girls 200 free style relay and the girls 400 freestyle relay all finished in the bottom eight on Thursday.
Wapakoneta High School seniors Nate Hager, Brandon Christler and Ryan Greve and freshman Charlie Sutton make up the boys 200 free relay, and they finished with a time of 1:32.43.
Miller, freshman Sierra Sammons, and juniors Stephanie Kessen and Taylor Law make up the girls 400 free style relay, and they finished in 22nd with a time of 3:50.00.
Sammons, Law, Miller and Taylor Hager make up the girls 200 free style relay, and they finished in 24th with a time of 1:43.63.
Miller will swim in the finals today, the swim session begins at 5 p.m. in Canton.View more articles in:
