The Wapakoneta Redskins varsity boys soccer team rolled to an 11-1 win over the Temple Christian Pioneers on Saturday at Ryan Field in Wapakoneta.
Wapak jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first eight minutes of the match and stretched it to 10-0 at the half.
Travis Bertram scored the Redskins first goal at 4:08 on an assist from Colin Mankin. And Bertram returned the favor to Mankin at 5:24.
Then Bertram punched in his second goal on an assist from Sam Hinegardner at 7:54.
Bertram finished with three goals. Mankin and Hinegardner had two goals apiece.
Bertram, Hinegardner and Andy Faller had two assists each.
Wapak outshot Temple 33-7 overall and 23-5 on-goal.
Allen East Invitational
LIMA â€” The Wapakoneta Redskins varsity boys golf team finished seventh overall at Springbrook Golf Course.
The Botkins Trojans placed ninth. And the Waynesfield-Goshen Tigers were 18th.
Caleb Acheson shot an 80 to lead Wapak. His score tied for 14th individually.
Bobby Crow carded an 82, followed by Drew Wayman (83), Aaron Johnson (89), Josh Apple (92) and Marshall Gerlach (93).
â€śHopefully, we will continue to improve each and every match,â€ť Wapak coach Ken Wayman said. â€śSo far, we have accomplished just that. Improvement is evident. We just need to avoid the big number holes.
â€śWe are still shooting ourselves in the foot. One hole we get a par or birdie and the next we get a double or triple. Basically, every course we play, it always comes down to the short game that hurts us.â€ť
For Botkins, Adam Bornhorst led the way with an 83 followed by Seth Hanna (88), Nate Cisco (89), Cory Kies (90), Connor Bornhorst (90) and Nick Okuley (92).
Justus Ball led W-G with a 90. Eric Shaner (97), Garrett Hauenstein (100), Ryan Agnew (120) and Jared Weeks (143) rounded out the Tigersâ€™ scoring.
Genoa won the event, followed by Kalida and Findlay.
BROOKVILLE â€” The Wapakoneta Redskins girls cross country team finished fourth and the boys team eighth at the Brookville Invitational on Saturday.
Freshman Summer Griner (22:31) led the Redskins with a 15th-place finish.
Junior Saira Brown (22nd, 22:54), junior Jessica Plaugher (24th, 23:01), junior Elizabeth Martin (25th, 23:02) and freshman Jenna Sawmiller (28th, 23:10) rounded out the top five for Wapak.
For the boys, the top finisher was sophomore Sam Harrod in 21st with an 18:36.
Freshman Alec Benny (29th, 18:58), junior John Martin (33rd, 19:10), freshman Hayden Brandenhoff (47th, 19:52) and junior Ryan Oâ€™Neil (57th, 20:47) completed the top five.
Tipp City Tippecanoe won the girls meet.
Troy won the boys.
Bob Schul Invitational
WEST MILTON â€” The Botkins Trojans competed in the two-mile meet at Milton Union.
The girls team took first in the event and the boys team placed second.
Top finishers for the girls were Brittany Bailey (1st, 12:26), Shelbie Bailey (2nd, 12:57), Liz Knoop (5th, 13:08), Bethany Christman (6th, 14:01) and Jackie Smith (7th, 14:03).
For the boys, the top finishers were Roger Miller (3rd, 11:20), Austin Jones (4th, 11:20), Lucas Buehler (14th, 12:13), Josh Schwartz (15th, 12:15) and Seth Hoying (18th, 12:24).
