Police, public to share Night Out

August 1, 2014

Wapakoneta Police Chief Russ Hunlock

The Wapakoneta Police Department is inviting the public to attend the upcoming National Night Out, an annual, fun-filled event planned to give community members a chance to interact with law enforcement agencies around the county.

“National Night Out basically is a day of telling criminals that neighbors and citizens of communities are not going to tolerate their criminal activity,” Wapakoneta Police Chief Russ Hunlock said. “Just to have the citizens get to know us a little bit, talk to us about any concerns that they may have in their specific neighborhood and just interact. We like to show them what we’re all about.”

National Night Out will be held from 7-9 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 5 at Harmon Park Gazebo in Wapakoneta.

Food, beverages and goodies will be handed out by officers. A girl’s bicycle and boy’s bicycle will be given out at the event, in addition to fitting children with bicycle helmets. Hunlock said community sponsors help raise funding for the items distributed and continue to keep the event running.
