Kaydence Vetter, Adyson Krouse and Makenna Krouse, all of Wapakoneta, enjoy the ice skating rink Saturday morning.
Behind nearly every door downtown on Saturday was a free treat or goodie for children as part of the Children’s Hometown Holiday. From popcorn and hot chocolate, to hot dogs and candy, downtown Wapakoneta’s generosity came out in full force this weekend.
There were smiling faces everywhere Saturday, and not just from the children.
“It’s really great that they have all of this down here,” said Heidi Snyder, who brought her two daughters to the event downtown. “It’s great that everything is free and there is so much to do.”
There were pony rides, face paintings, children’s movies, ice skating, tea parties, breakfasts with race car drivers and more for local children.
Children lined up to have their caricature drawn, to receive free shaved ice and to, of course, see Santa.
Saturday’s weather was bright and sunny, if a little chilly for all the Children’s Hometown Holiday Happenings.
The Grinch, Dora the Explorer, the Chipmunks and everyone’s favorite M&M characters walked around with many of their other cartoon friends Saturday morning and afternoon, waving at the children and passing out treats.
Many stopped to pose for photos opportunities with children and adults alike.
Ashley Crisp, who brought her son downtown, thought that everything about the day was great.
“They have all of the characters downtown, which I think is really neat,” she said. “The best part about this is that it’s all free for the kids.”
