Orin J. Roettger, 89, of St. Marys, passed away peacefully at 12:15 a.m. Sunday, April 21, 2013, at Joint Township District Memorial Hospital in St. Marys.
He was born Sept. 17, 1923, in New Bremen, the son of Luetta (Dammeyer) and Clarence Roettger, who preceded him in death. On Oct. 3, 1942, he married Lois Boroff, they were married for 69 years, she survives at the residence.
Also surviving are four daughters, Donna (Rick) Moon, of St. Marys, Judy (George) Sheipline, of St. Marys, Carol (Tom) Baeumel, of Wapakoneta, and Emma (Dennis) Metzger, of St. Marys; a son Rodney (Kelli) Roettger, of Wapakoneta; 17 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren; and 13 great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Jeni Roettger; a great-granddaughter, Amber Williams; a brother, Norb Roettger; and four sisters, Marie Neuman, Lucille Rumpff, Catherine Dingledine and La Verta Joyce.
Orin served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II in Italy in the 10th infantry mountaineer division. He was a radio telephone operator. He retired from the St. Marys Foundry after 46 years.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping. He loved the small farm they lived on raising a variety of animals.
He was a member of the St. Marys Church of Nazarene.
A visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Cisco Funeral Home 1175 E. Greenville Rd., St. Marys.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Bill A. Drummond officiating. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memory Gardens in St. Marys. Military honors will be provided by the St. Marys VFW.
Memorial contribution can be made to the St. Marys VFW Color Guard.
