Keeping hope and keeping up the fight.

Those were the themes discussed at a panel discussion Saturday to recognize the ongoing fight against opioid addiction.

The panel included Republican candidates for governor and lieutenant governor, Mike DeWine and Jon Husted, and J.D. Vance, author of "Hillbilly Elegy." Vance was raised in Middletown.

The discussion was held at offices of the Cornerstone Project, which helps those recovering from addiction.

A crowd of about 100 people was on hand for the discussion. Husted began by welcoming everyone. He then introduced DeWine, who has been the state attorney general since 2011. DeWine noted that there is good and bad news. The "bad" includes...
