NEW BREMEN — The New Bremen girls basketball team swarmed Botkins with an array of defenses and ended the Trojan’s three-game winning streak with a 39-26 decision on Monday night.
Botkins shot 18 percent from the floor on 7-of-40 shooting and turned the ball over 21 times in the face of four different New Bremen defenses that included fullcourt and halfcourt presses and man-to-man defense.
“We switched our defenses around every so often and I think sometimes when you do that, they kind of get out of their rhythm,” New Bremen head coach Chris Burden said.
New Bremen’s Kyla Otting led all scorers with 12 points. Haley Moeller added 10 points.
“It just seemed like they had a hand in every passing lane and took us out of everything we wanted to do,” Botkins head coach Don Mack said.
Logan Pitts scored 11 points to lead Botkins. Cassie Bergman added nine points.
New Bremen scored 10 of the first 12 points of the game and extended its lead to 20-5 in the second quarter.
New Bremen improved to 2-4 on the season. The Cardinals resume Midwest Athletic Conference play on Thursday at Parkway and then travel to Delphos St. John’s in the second leg of a three straight road games.
Botkins dipped to 4-2 on the season. The Trojans host Anna on Thursday in a Shelby County League game.
