Myrtle DeLong, 103

Myrtle DeLong, 103, of Wapakoneta, died at 11:15 a.m. Saturday, June 9, 2012, at her son’s residence near Wapakoneta.
She was born Sept. 20, 1908, to Millie and Jessie Shaw, who preceded her in death. On May 2, 1931, she married Harley DeLong , who died Oct. 9, 1983.
Surviving are a son, Ned (JoAnn) DeLong, of Wapakoneta; eight grandchildren, Deanna (Roger) Langley, Paula DeLong, Ned (Mindy) DeLong Jr., Daniel (Tammy) DeLong, Bruce (Jackie) Carpenter, Julie Stevely, Thomas DeLong, and Jessica DeLong; 15 great-grandchildren; Jay, Sara, Debbie, Robert, Rachel, Ronnie, Emily, Tyler, Chelsea, Amanda, April, Sam, Amy, Abigail and Emma; and a great-great-grandson, Noah.
She was also preceded in death by two sons, James DeLong and Donald DeLong; a daughter, MaryBeth Carpenter; a granddaughter, Nancy McClintock; a daughter- in-law, Elaine DeLong; and a great-grandson, Alex DeLong.
Mrs. DeLong was a member of the first graduating class of Cridersville High School. She was the head cook at Northridge Elementary until she retired in 1969. She also worked on the farm along with her husband. She was a member of Salem United Methodist Church, Wapakoneta, where she taught Sunday school for many years. Myrtle and her husband, Harley, also owned and operated DeLong’s Lunch, a mobile lunch stand that catered to many auctions (mainly Eugene Myers Auction Service). They were well known for serving their special BBQ, chicken sandwiches and delicious pies.
Services are at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Salem United Methodist Church in Wapakoneta, with the Revs. Shawn Morris and Greg Roberts officiating. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery, in Wapakoneta.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Bayliff and Eley Funeral Home in Wapakoneta and 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the church.
