Matthias Bachman, 82

Matthias E. Bachman, 82, died at 10:04 a.m. Thursday, June 27, 2013, at Senior Care in Midland, Texas, in the presence of family and friends.
Matthias is the youngest son of seven children, born Feb. 24, 1931, to Agnes (Duvall) and Rudolf Bachman of Wapakoneta, who preceded him in death. He is also preceded in death by his brothers John, of Wapakoneta, James of Ulysses, Pa., and William, of New Carlisle; and his sisters Doris LeBlanc, of Sunman, Ind., Elizabeth, of Wapakoneta, and Mary Wadsack, of Lake Charles, La. He is survived by 15 nieces and nephews and their children.
He is a 1949 graduate of Blume High School in Wapakoneta. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corp in January of 1951. He served honorably in the Korean War where he was assigned to a tank battalion through 1951 and 1952. He received an honorable discharge from the Marine Corp, at the rank of Sargent, on Jan. 9, 1954. He earned the Korean Service, UN Service, Good Conduct and National Defense Metals.
He went on to receive bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from The Ohio State University with a major in geology. From there life took him to Midland, Texas, where he was employed as a geologist for Texaco until his retirement in 1996. He was active in all shooting sports and received many marksman awards in competitions throughout Texas. He also enjoyed spending time on his farm located East of Midland and was active in his church, The Westside Church of Christ.
A memorial service was held in Midland, Texas on June 29.
He will be buried at Greenlawn Cemetery in Wapakoneta.
He was loved and will be missed by the many he touched.
