ROCKFORD — The Wapakoneta Junior ACME team opened district play with a 6-2 win over St. Henry Monday.
Wapakoneta broke open the scoring in the top of the first when Logan Martin drew a leadoff walk and stole second base. Quinn Lotridge singled and got caught in an intentional rundown between first and second, allowing Martin to score.
Jarrett Koch and Martin put together successive RBI doubles in the third inning to stretch the lead to 3-0.
Jon Eaton kicked in with a groundout that scored Keaton Metz in the fifth inning, and Kodi Morgan’s RBI single in the sixth made it 5-0.
St. Henry finally broke the scoring column with two runs in the sixth, but Rasche added an insurance run for Wapakoneta in the final inning by scoring from third on a wild pitch.
If St. Henry had any intentions of running the base baths, Nate Kaeck quickly silenced those intentions by nailing would-be base stealers in each of the first two innings. They did not attempt to steal another base.
Metz was effective, never allowing a St. Henry runner past second base other than the sixth inning. He went the distance, scattering six hits and a walk while striking out six.
The Redskins wait to see who they play depending on the outcome of other games. They play at 6 p.m. Wednesday in Rockford.View more articles in:
