Joan Linder Scheer, 86

Joan (Phyllis) Linder Scheer, 86, of Westerville, formerly of Wapakoneta, died at 12:05 p.m. Monday, July 1, 2013, at Parkside Senior Village, in Westerville.
She was born July 30, 1926, in Wapakoneta, the daughter of Bernice (Wissman) and Peter Rypkema, who preceded her in death. On Feb. 26, 1949, she married Richard Linder, and he died Jan. 2, 1986. Then on April 28, 1993, she married Lafe “Jack” Scheer, Jr., and he died Oct. 22, 2006.
Surviving are seven children, Kathy (Doug) Rath, of Defiance, Steve (Kathy) Linder, of Jamestown, Susie McCormick, of Cincinnati, Mary (Russ) Barton, of Westerville, Jeff Linder, of Columbus, Amy (Tom) Wood, Columbus, and Pat (Susanne) Linder, of Cincinnati; 13 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Elaine Frericks.
Joan worked as treasurer for the Telephone Service Co. in Wapakoneta for many years. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Wapakoneta. Her other memberships included the Fraternal Order of the Eagles, Aerie 691, Auxiliary, the V.F.W. Post 8445, Auxiliary, and the Senior Citizens, all of Wapakoneta. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting and reading. She was an active volunteer at St. Joseph Catholic Church.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Wapakoneta, with the Rev. Daniel Hunt officiating. Burial is to follow in the St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Wapakoneta.
The family will receive friends from 9 to 10 a.m. Frriday at the Long & Folk Chapel of Bayliff & Eley Funeral Home, 13 S. Blackhoof St., Wapakoneta.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Heartland Hospice of Columbus, St. Joseph Catholic Church, or the American Cancer Society.
