Heritage Trails Park District (HTPD) officials announced Tuesday their intent to place a property levy on the primary ballot to fund programming and expansion of the Auglaize County park district into the next decade.
Heritage Trails Park District Commissioner Dave Stillwell explained the park district commissioners agreed to place a seven-year, 0.6-mill property tax levy on the primary ballot in May 2014 in Auglaize County. The levy would generate approximately $300,000 for the park district formed in 1996.
“We’ve known all along we would have to take that next step that we need funding and we need the support of the residents in the county,” Stillwell said, explaining the millage came about after an analysis of their budget and the number of years was determined from a belief of what would be needed to establish a “good park district.” “We are going to ask the residents of Auglaize County to spend a minute amount of their money — just the cost of a movie.
