The man responsible for the best stretch of football in Wapakoneta Redskins history is stepping away from the program, and his next step might be to where he came to Wapakoneta from.

After four seasons, Doug Frye is resigning as head varsity football coach at Wapakoneta High School, which could lead to a possible return to the St. Marys Roughriders.

Superintendent Shawn Brown on Friday morning confirmed that Frye has been recommended to the St. Marys board of education to fill St. Marys Memorial High School’s open head varsity football coaching position.

The recommendation is pending approval at the board’s upcoming Jan. 15 meeting.
