Firefighter contract on hold

February 28, 2014

A contract between Wapakoneta firefighters and city officials that was supposed to be signed Thursday has been delayed due to “housekeeping issues,” according to Safety-Service Director Bill Rains.

Rains said he expects to have the finalized contract by early next week, and will sign it as soon as he receives it.

The document is currently being reviewed by Clemans, Nelson and Associates, a human resources management firm.

“We’ve finished negotiations with the firefighters and they’ve agreed to it, so right now I’m getting all the information to our HR consultants and they’ll produce the actual contract,” Rains said.

Rains said he was able to “tie up some very loose ends” on Thursday with regards to the contract. The previous version contained the wrong Ohio Revised Code, and there was a statistical error that needed to be changed. These issues caused the contract signing to be delayed, as the HR firm must re-write it and send it back.
