With the national YMCA logo changing, a local family donated a new awning to the local facility.
James Berg, of Wapakoneta, and his family donated a new awning that is currently installed in the front of the Wapakoneta YMCA facility.
âThe YMCA appreciates all of the support from the Berg Family for the awning that all members will enjoy,â Wapakoneta Family YMCA CEO Josh Little said. âThe national YMCA required us to change the awning due to the new logo, and the family graciously donated the awning after donating the original one a few years ago.â
The new awning was installed in August, after the national YMCA changed their logo.
Little said that the facility would have had to purchase a new awning this year, to be compliant with the national rules that Wapakoneta YMCA must follow, and he was very thankful for the familyâs donation.
âWe are very grateful for the donation and everything they have done for us,â Little said. âBudgets are tight and to not have to worry about purchasing a new awning is a relief, so we can focus on other things our membership needs.â
Little said the awning comes in good use, especially when it rains or snows, because this gives members a spot to stand under, while they wait for rides to leave the facility.
âThis donation is not simply for the awning, but also in appreciation of the YMCA staff and many fellow members who always extend a helping hand and friendship to my brother, John Berg,â James Berg said. âWe thank you for all being kind and helpful when John visits the YMCA. I know his friends at the âYâ are very special.â
John Berg, a resident of The Gardens of Wapakoneta, visits the Wapakoneta Family YMCA three times a week, and James Berg said this is the highlight of his week.
âThis is one outside activity he really enjoys,â James Berg said.
James Berg said he is appreciative of the kindness and warm hand that the staff extends when John visits.
âWe always enjoy seeing John here,â Little said.
James Berg was apart of the original board of directors for the Wapakoneta Family YMCA and has been active in raising money for the facility through the years.
