The demolition of the Ponderosa Steakhouse building on Bellefontaine Street Monday was the first phase in the construction of a new McDonald’s restaurant that will occupy both its current property and the old Ponderosa site.

McDonald’s Store Owner Jeff Monfort said when the new building is complete it will be turned around to face east and there will be parking surrounding the entire building.

Monfort said if everything goes as planned, the new restaurant will open in the fall of 2014. In the meantime, the McDonald’s will stay open at its current site until they need to start moving equipment into the new building.

“There will be maybe a week to 10 days where we have some equipment transfer that will require both buildings to be down until we can prepare the new building,” Monfort said.
