Eugene P. Dietz, age 74, of Lima, passed away April 3, 2013.
He was born August 26, 1938 to Mary (Foltz) and Urban Dietz in Wapakoneta where he was raised. He graduated from St. Joseph High School before going to college at the University of Dayton
He graduated with a degree in electrical engineering before obtaining a commission to the U.S. Navy.
Gene is survived by his loving wife of 51 years Barbara Weeks Dietz; children, Bryan (Jan) Dietz, David (Susyn) Dietz, and Jill (Carl) Landry; grandchildren, Matthew, Michael, Kayleigh, McCarthy (Max), Stuart, and Camille; sisters, Marge (Jess, deceased) Rupert, Dottie (Bob) Manger, and Sue (Frank, deceased) Manger; a sister-in-law, Shirley (Steve) Yorgy; as well as many nieces, nephew, and friends.
He proudly served in the Navy for 10 years as a pilot. He flew during the Vietnam War before being stationed on the USS Bon Homme Richard (CVA-31). Following his distinguished service, Gene and Barb moved back to Northwestern Ohio where they opened and operated Aamco Transmissions for 30 years on Market Street in Lima.
Following his retirement he enjoyed wood working and volunteering for Habitat for Humanity.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to services Saturday at St. Charles Catholic Church, where he was a member, 2200 W. Elm St., Lima.
A celebration memorial mass will begin 11a.m., Saturday, at St. Charles Catholic Church, Lima. with the Rev. Father Steven Blum officiating
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are encouraged to be made to Habitat for Humanity, 550 W. Elm St., Lima, OH 45801.
