Dorcas Jane(Chapman) Bryan, 83, formerly of Cadillac, Mich., and Cherokee Village, Ariz., passed away on Saturday, March 23, 2013, in Grand Rapids, Mich.
Dorcas was born Nov. 25, 1929, in Bellaire, to Dorothy and John Chapman and graduated from Blume High School, in Wapakoneta, in 1947. She married Richard Bryan in 1948, in Wapakoneta, and he preceded her in death in 2006. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Johnny, in 2008.
She is survived by four children; Nina Gorak (Walter), of Ada, Mich.; Grant Bryan (Diane), of Lowell, Mich.; Ellen Kolarik (Chris), of Canton, Mich.; and Kelly Johnson (Steve-deceased), of Benson, Ariz. She is survived by seven grandchildren, Brandy Smith (Jared), of Leroy, Mich.; Michael Bryan (Sarah), of Cedar Springs, Mich.; Renae Tonge (Adam), of Huntington Woods, Mich.; Nina Johnson, of Chadron, Neb.; Will Bryan (Renee), of Northville, Mich.; Amy Kolarik, of Mt. Pleasant, Mich.; and Greg Johnson, of Benson, Ariz. Dorcas also is survived by four great-grandchildren, Madison, Jacob and Eli Smith, of Leroy, Mich., and Ashlynn Tonge, of Huntington Woods, Mich.
Dorcas was the office manager for several years at Cole Construction Co., in Cadillac, Mich., and also was a certified tax preparer at Baird, Cotter & Bishop, of Cadillac, Mich. She was a member of the Cadillac Womenâs Club and Cadillac Country Club.
Family was always her first priority and she volunteered in various capacities for her childrenâs activities throughout their childhoods and was known as an excellent cook and seamstress. She and Richard hosted friends and family at their Lake Cadillac home at every opportunity.
Services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Wednesday, at First English Lutheran Church, in Wapakoneta. Internment is to immediately follow at Greenlawn Cemetery, in Wapakoneta.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First English Lutheran Church, 107 W. Mechanic St., Wapakoneta, Ohio, 45895, which was both Dorcasâ and Richardâs family church as they were growing up.
