Former American Idol competitor Colton Dixon will highlight this year’s Family, Faith and Friends Concert scheduled for 7 p.m. Saturday in Harmon Park.
The event is being hosted by the Wapakoneta Area Ministerial Association. Nan Stiger, one of many people helping with the organization of the event, said they expect a big crowd.
“Last year we had about 3,500,” Stiger said. “We are hoping for that and many more this year.”
Dixon, who is one of two acts to appear on Saturday, finished seventh in the 11th season of the show. He made his debut on the show in January 2012. He originally had also auditioned in 2010 but didn’t make the final 24 cut. His cut was defined as “a shock” by Steven Tyler.
However, his album released in January, titled “A Messenger,” reached as high as 15th on the overall chart in the U.S. and was No. 1 on both U.S. Gospel and U.S. Christian charts.
Stiger said Dixon has been especially accommodating while preparing for his performance in Wapakoneta and has even agreed to stop and meet with a handicapped individual who can’t attend the event.
A Facebook page has been popular with fans from as far away as Canada responding and saying they were coming to the event. Many people have inquired about available hotels on the site in the Wapakoneta area.
“We encourage everyone to bring blankets and lawn chairs,” Stiger said. “Harmon Park provides a nice natural amphitheater.”
The other group is the Capital Kings.
Concessions and a merchant table with items for fans will be available for concert goers.
The event is free and open to the public.
