A record-setting night by a member of the Wapakoneta Redskins varsity volleyball team could not find the mental strength to close out sets against a “scrappy and tough” Defiance Bulldogs team.
Senior middle hitter Sarah Pothast set the single-season kill record for the Wapakoneta High School program, but Defiance rallied after losing the first game to the Redskins to win, 3-1.
Pothast broke the previous record of 267. She ended the match with 274 kills with three regular season games left.
Wapak won the first game 25-22. Defiance won the second and third sets 25-21 and 25-12. In the fourth game, the Bulldogs pulled out a 29-27 win.
