Curtiss E. Hager, 86, of St. Marys, formerly of Spencerville, died at 3:54 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2013, at the St. Marys Living Center with family at his side. He had lived there since October 2012.
He was born Jan. 27, 1926, in Logan Township, Auglaize County, the son of Elma (Walther) and Earl Hager, who preceded him in death. On June 4, 1949, he married Ruthela Wagner, and she survives in St. Marys.
Also surviving are a daughter, Dianna (Joe) Wenger, of Elkhart, Ind.; a son, Jay (Rhonda) Hager, of Spencerville; five grandchildren, Jennifer Wenger, Matt (Jamele) Wenger, Ben (Jessica) Wenger, Andrea Hager and Steve Hager; great-grandchildren, Joshua, Meghan, Caleb, Marissa, Aiden, Ethan, Olivia, and Elliana Wenger; two brothers, Don (Claudette) Hager, of Lima, Wilbur (Merlene) Hager, of Wapakoneta; and a sister, Dorothy (Jim) Morgan, of Lima.
He was preceded in death by two daughters, Karen Hager and Tommy Hager; a son, Hal Hager; and a brother, Howard.
Curtiss was a 1944 graduate of Buckland High School. He was a lifelong member of the Bethlehem Christian Union Church, near Buckland, where he taught Sunday school and served on the church board.
He enjoyed visiting with his family, and watching The Ohio State University basketball and the Cincinnati Reds.
Services are at 2 p.m. Saturday at Thomas E. Bayliff Funeral Home, in Spencerville, with his son-in-law, the Rev. Joe Wenger and the Rev. Kent Place officiating. Burial is to follow in the Spencerville Cemetery.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday and 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
