County seeking person to serve on board

July 6, 2011

The Auglaize County commissioners are looking for someone to serve on the Mental Health and Recovery Services Board of Allen, Auglaize and Hardin Counties.
The four-year term is to replace the Rev. Steve Nelson, whose term has expired.
The board’s mission is to “reach out and provide vital prevention and treatment services to every resident,” board Executive Director Mike Schoenhofer said
“Board members will actively participate in setting a strategic course, developing a framework of policies, and conducting the necessary oversight as they work to fulfill the mission on behalf of the member counties,” Schoenhofer said.
He said the board plans, administers and funds mental health and substance abuse prevention and treatment services through contracts with private, non-profit treatment agencies to provide these services to residents of the three counties.
“The focus of the board’s contracts are on youth and adults with severe and persistent mental illness or substance use disorders and on early intervention, prevention and wellness,” Schoenhofer said.
The board is comprised of 18 members with four appointed by the Ohio Department of Mental Health, four by the Ohio Department of Alcohol and Drug Addiction Services, four by the Allen County commissioners and three each by Auglaize and Hardin county commissioners.
Board members must be residents of the three counties and have no conflict of interest as defined by the Ohio Ethics Commission.
As part of their duties, board members must regularly attend monthly board meetings held on the third Wednesday of each month, as well as other meetings as determined by the board. Board members must also stay informed about board matters, prepare for meetings, and review and comment on minutes and reports, as well as get to know each other and build collegial working relationships and contribute to consensus as well as actively participate in appropriate evaluation and planning.
