The Wapakoneta City Council’s Parks and Rivers Committee received an update Wednesday on the proposed RiverWalk project.

In attendance at the meeting were City Engineering Supervisor Mary Ruck and Brian Barhorst from Choice One Engineering.

The committee has been seeking an update since the project was approved in 2015. A preliminary drawing of the project has been around since 2010, and the city has applied for state grants for the project since at least that time. During the 2015 application process, a public meeting was held to get input from the community. That input included several ideas for enhancement, the most notable being a shelter house that could be used year-round.

The approval of the project from the state offered little detail, though, on what was approved and councilors wanted to be sure of what the city is responsible for. The state has agreed to pay 95 percent of the construction costs. The city would be responsible for 5 percent plus the cost of engineering.
