Clarks say good-bye to car dealership

February 28, 2014

Jerry and Terry Clark

A dealership that has been a part of Wapakoneta since 1931 and has been owned by the Clark family for 59 years was sold to new owners in January.

Jerry and Terry Clark, previous owners of Clark Ford Sales, said they have been making preparations to sell for nearly a year and are currently undergoing the transition of leaving the business.

The couple said they decided to sell because their children were not interested in taking over. Their daughter, Wendy, teaches music in Sidney City Schools, and their son, Andy, is completing his second degree in film studies in San Francisco State College.

After turning down a few deals with buyers who wanted to move the dealership out of Wapakoneta, the Clarks found someone willing to stay in the same location — Kurt and Cindy Dennis, of the Columbus area. The Clarks turned it over on Jan. 31, 2014.

“We wanted our employees to be able to keep their jobs,” Terry said. “We feel fortunate that we were able to find a buyer who would keep the dealership here in Wapak, keep the current employees and continue with the Ford franchise.”
