Chester E. Hittepole Sr., 85, of Wapakoneta, died at 2:15 p.m., Monday, Nov. 21, 2011, at the Lima Memorial Health System.
He was born Oct. 5, 1926, in St. Johns, the son of Mabel (Kiese) and Glen Hittepole, who preceded him in death. On Feb. 17, 1947, he married Dorothy M. Werling, and she survives.
Also surviving are a son, Chester E. Hittepole Jr., of Wapakoneta; a daughter, Sharon Shoup, of Wapakoneta; three grandchildren, Scott Hittepole, Bridget Hittepole, and Stacie (Jarrod) Neidemire: two great-grandchildren, Alex Shoup and Jacob Neidemire; a sister, Farrell Kohlrieser, of Wapakoneta; numerous half-brothers and sisters; two brothers-in-law, Floyd Dilsaver, of Botkins, and Carl Werling, of Wapakoneta; and a sister-in-law Irene Metzger.
He was preceded in death by a son-in-law David Shoup; a grandson and his wife, Shane and Mandy Shoup; and a sister Margene Thrush.
Chet retired as a distributor at Pepsi Cola in Lima. He also worked at Moulton Gas Company and Kinstle Trucking. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Wapakoneta. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. His other memberships included, the Knights of Columbus, Council 1272, the American Legion Post 330, and the Fraternal Order of the Eagles, Aerie 691, all of Wapakoneta. He was also a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose 452, and the AmVets Post 39, both of Indian Lake. He enjoyed tinkering in his garage, his dogs, and morning coffee with his friends at the Wapakoneta McDonalds.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Wapakoneta, with the Rev. Patrick Sloneker officiating. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery in Wapakoneta.
Friends may call 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., Friday at Long & Folk Chapel of Bayliff & Eley Funeral Home, 13 South Blackhoof St. in Wapakoneta.
