Carl E. Shaffer, 92

Carl E. Shaffer, 92, of 207 West Street, Jackson Center, passed away Friday, Aug. 8, 2014, at 4:18 p.m., at Wapakoneta Manor Nursing Home. He was born on Nov. 12, 1921, in Lakeview, the son of the late Farren and Myrle (Weber) Shaffer.

On Sept. 3, 1946, he married Mabel Myers who survives along with three children, Karen Martin, Joyce Dray, both of Jackson Center, and Gary Shaffer, of Sidney, six grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren and one brother, Richard Shaffer, of Wapakoneta. He was preceded in death by five brothers, Robert, Larry, Roger, John and Gerald Shaffer, and three sisters, Evelyn Stevenson, Dorothy Douglas and Jean Detrick.

Mr. Shaffer was a U.S. World War II Air Force veteran serving his country from 1942 to 1945. He retired from the Shelby County Highway Department after 25 years of service. He was a member of the Jackson Center American Legion Post 493 and VFW 3316.

A graveside service with military honors will be held Tuesday, August 12, 2014, at 11 a.m., at Greenlawn Cemetery in Wapakoneta. Arrangements are in the care of Cromes Funeral Home, 302 S. Main Ave, Sidney.
