BOWLING GREEN â Wapakoneta Redskins junior Caleb Achesonâs golf season is not over yet.
Acheson fired a 76 in the Division I sectional boys golf tournament Tuesday at Stone Ridge Golf Club in Bowling Green and qualified for the district tournament Thursday, Oct. 13 at Red Hawk in Findlay.
After carding a 41 on the front nine, Acheson rebounded to cover the back nine in a 1-under 35 with four birdies.
âGetting birdies today was hard to come by because the greens were very fast and they had a lot of movement,â Wapak coach Ken Wayman said. âIn other words, Calebâs four birdies were impressive. Caleb was even-keel throughout the round and thatâs why he played as well as he did. He didnât try to press the issue when he shot 41 the first nine holes.â
The top five teams from the sectional tournament and the top five individuals not on a qualifying team advance to districts.
Achesonâs 76 tied Maumeeâs Mitchell Kantak for low score among individuals not on qualifying teams. As a team, the Redskins finished 17th out of 19 teams.
âIt wasnât our greatest result but the caliber of golf we played against was impressive,â Wayman said. âFor the most part, the teams that were there had four very good scores to record. Unfortunately for us, we had two scores that were good. We need to find a way in the next few years to record four solid scores.â
Freshman Drew Wayman shot an 86. Junior Aaron Johnson turned in a 100. Sophomore Bobby Crow posted a 104. And junior Josh Apple 108.
âThe good news we donât have any seniors on this team,â Ken Wayman said. âThe guys really work hard for me and if they continue to work hard in the offseason, good things will come for the Wapakoneta golf team.â
