The Wapakoneta Redskins are â€” pardon the pun â€” bowling over the competition.
Wapakâ€™s boys team improved to 11-0 with a pair of wins in West Ohio High School Bowling conference varsity action Saturday at Varsity Lanes in St. Marys.
The Redskins remain in first place in the conference, just ahead of the also-unbeaten Versailles Tigers. Wapak and Versailles will square off in the regular-season finale Saturday, Feb. 11 at 20th Century Lanes in Lima.
On Saturday, Wapak opened with a 2,228-1,712 win over the Minster Wildcats.
Junior Zach Miller bowled a team-best game of 245, the third-best game of the shift overall. Senior Anthony Kennard posted a 211. Senior Chandler Kaeck added a 196.
In the second shift, Wapak handed the rival St. Marys Roughriders their second loss of the season with a 2,440-2,189 triumph.
The Redskins accounted for five of the top seven individual games of the shift.
Senior Luke Manger led the way with rounds of 258 and 230. Sophomore Austin Krites rolled a 255.
Sophomore Zerrick Brannan chipped in with a 234. Miller bowled a 228 and a 226. And Kennard turned in games of 225 and 199.
The boys will face the 9-2 Coldwater Cavaliers at 1 p.m. Saturday at Ottawa Highland Lanes.
The girls team upped its record to 7-1 with its win at Speedway Lanes in New Bremen. Wapak remains in third place behind unbeatens Coldwater and St. Marys.
The Redskins topped their namesakes from St. Henry 2,371-2,161.
Junior Haley Grieves rolled a team-best game of 214, the third-best game of the day overall. Senior Casey Feltz posted a 204.
Next up for the girls team is a doubleheader Saturday at Varsity Lanes. Wapak will face the Parkway Panthers at 10 a.m. and the Van Wert Cougars at 12:30 p.m.View more articles in:
