Botkins hires new fiscal officer

BOTKINS — On March 26, the village of Botkins officially hired its third treasurer in the past year.

Tammy Ganger, of rural Houston, was officially hired as village fiscal officer.

“I am grateful for this opportunity,” Ganger said of her new position.

The position came open after the past fiscal officer, Teresa Featheringham, announced she would be leaving to accept a position with the Shelby County Educational Services Center. Featheringham  took the position last March after longtime clerk-treasurer Ed Brown announced he was stepping down.

Botkins Village Council members voted to change the position from an elected position to an appointed position after Brown stepped down.

Ganger comes with experience in banking an agribusiness, serving as office manager of the farmer’s elevator in Houston for 11 years. She stepped down from the position about a year and a half ago to spend time with her sick father.

Ganger’s daughter, Ashley Zimpfer, had been a member of Botkins Village Council but announced her resignation so her mother could take her new post to avoid conflicts of interest. Ganger and her husband, Gregory, also have another grown daughter.

“I was the oldest of four kids and I felt it was up to me to  spend time with my parents,” Ganger said of leaving her former post in Houston.

Ganger had turned in a resume last March when Brown left but did not follow up to get the position, saying the timing was not yet right. Village Administrator Jesse Kent said Ganger was picked from the original resumes that were submitted when Brown had left the position. They had received a little over 30 applicants for the spot.

Ganger said she and her husband enjoy spending time with family and outdoor activities at Indian Lake.
