BASKETBALL: Trojans rally in fourth
ROCKFORD — As the old cliché goes, better late than never.
It took a little while for the Botkins Trojans varsity girls basketball team to get going Monday night, but once it did, it broke out in a big way.
After scoring just 27 points in the first three quarters, the Trojans put 22 points on the board in the fourth quarter to erase a 30-27 deficit and roll to a 49-36 win over the Parkway Panthers.
Botkins held the Panthers to just six points in the final quarter.
The inside combination of Logan Pitts and Christine Johnson once again paced the Trojans. Pitts led the way with 17 points on 3 of 6 from the floor and 11 of 12 from the free throw line. Johnson added 16 points on 5 of 11 and 6 of 10.
Johnson narrowly misses recording a double-double, pulling down a team-high nine rebounds.
Claire McCullough chipped in with seven points. Hannah Koch contributed six.
The Trojans led 20-17 at the half. But Parkway outscored them 13-7 in the third quarter to retake the lead.
Botkins improved to 8-8 on the season. Parkway is 6-9.
