BASEBALL: Tigers let one get away

March 30, 2012

NEW KNOXVILLE — Waynesfield-Goshen opened the door and New Knoxville barged right in.

The Rangers scored five runs on one hit, five walks and an error in the bottom of the seventh inning to erase a four-run deficit and pull out a 10-9 win over the Tigers in a non-league varsity baseball game at New Knoxville.

The Rangers had already come from behind once in the game.  They scored four runs in the home half of the sixth inning to erase a 5-1 Waynesfield-Goshen lead and tie the game heading into the seventh.

The Tigers bounced right back, batting around to plate four runs and take a 9-5 lead in the top of the seventh.

Junior Dylan Little took the loss on the mound for W-G.  Senior Jacob Frank started and allowed just one run on two hits in the first five innings before the Rangers’ four-run sixth.

The Tigers are 0-3 despite strong showings in two of their losses.

Junior Cole Sackinger was 2-for-4 with a pair of singles at the plate, driving in two and scoring twice.

Junior Taylor Schultz went 1 for 3 and drove in a pair of runs.

Senior Eric Shaner came off the bench and produced a two-run single in the seventh.

Junior Gabe Hennon doubled, drew a pair of walks and scored twice.

The Tigers return to action at 5 tonight when they host the Fort Recovery Indians.

New Knoxville upped its record to 1-1.
