Annual Holiday Open Houses set for weekend

November 3, 2011

Robin Klock, of Wapakoneta, checks out a few Christmas decorations at Casa Chic at the annual Holiday Open Houses last year. This year’s theme is “Home for the Holidays.”

With Christmas less than two months away, local shops are preparing for holiday shoppers this weekend.
Wapakoneta’s annual Holiday Open Houses will be held this weekend throughout different shops, businesses and churches in Wapakoneta.
“We would like everyone to get their holiday shopping starting in Wapakoneta,” Wapakoneta Antique and Specialty Shops (WASS) President Jamie Goudy said. “This is a great way to kick off the holiday season.”
Goudy said this event is held in early November to usher in the upcoming holiday season and this is a chance for people to get a head start on their Christmas shopping and to shop locally.
This event, which is sponsored by WASS, is a Wapakoneta tradition, has been held for more than a decade. This event features downtown shops and local businesses that will be holding specials in honor of the upcoming holiday season.
The theme this year is “Home for the Holidays,” and WASS officials thought it was fitting with the city’s local achievements.
“We chose it because we were one of Ohio’s Best Hometowns,” Goudy said.
There are approximately 15 shops involved in the Holiday Open Houses, and some will include special sales and refreshments at their location.
“We’re really excited to have new stores joining us this year,” Goudy said, which include Fernhill Farm House and Macky’s Health Market.
The Holiday Open Houses begin Friday and extend through Sunday, with hours varying by store.
Carriage rides are to be held from noon to 5 on Saturday around downtown Wapakoneta and a Children’s Gift Wrapping Contest being held from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at Village Green.
