WAYNESFIELD — The Wapakoneta Redskins won their first match of the season Monday as they handled the Waynesfield-Goshen Tigers, 188-238, in non-league varsity girls golf action at Prairie View Golf Club in Waynesfield.
Monday’s result evened both teams’ 2013 overall records at 1-1.
The Redskins’ top four scorers each bested the Tigers’ top scorer.
The Waynesfield-Goshen Tigers varsity girls golf team notched its first win in school history Friday, tallying a 265-270 victory over the Fort Recovery Indians in a dual match played at the Mercer County Elks Country Club in Celina.
W-G started its first full girls golf season in school history this school year beginning Friday.
The Tigers were led by Kennedy Rumer and Chelsea Spencer, who each tallied a 57. Also for W-G, Elva Anne Shephard had a 71, while Hannah Williams scored an 80.
The Wapakoneta Redskins varsity girls golf team began its 2013 regular season Thursday with a 162-189 loss to the Perrysburg Yellow Jackets, in non-league dual match played at White Pines Golf Course in Swanton.
Perrysburg’s Monica Dorner was the match medalist with a nine-hole score of 37.
Shelby Kohler paced Wapak with a 42.
Completing the top four scoring totals for the Redskins were Zoe Rayburn (48), Haley Kinstle (49) and Sierra Sammons (50).
PHOENIX â€” Brian Garman said he is â€śpenciled inâ€ť for a rehab assignment the weekend of Aug. 17-18, after making progress with his injured throwing shoulder in Arizona.
Garman was sent to the Milwaukee Brewersâ€™ spring training facility in Phoenix on July 17 to receive further treatment on his injured shoulder, diagnosed as a torn labrum. Garman has been on the disabled list since June 24. He is a relief pitcher in the Brewersâ€™ minor league system, most recently with the Huntsville (Ala.) Stars.
LIMA — The Waynesfield-Goshen Tigers varsity boys golf team opened its 2013 regular season Tuesday, finishing 14th out of 18 schools at the Hawthorne Hills Invitational, hosted by the Allen East Mustangs, at Hawthorne Hills Country Club.
The Tigers shot a team score of 414 and were led by Trey Crumrine’s 92 on the par-72 course.
Rounding out the scoring four totals for W-G were Lake Turner (97), Gabe Wilcox (107) and Brandon Turner (118).
