Wapakoneta gas supplier named

The city of Wapakoneta has selected IGS Energy of Dublin, Ohio, as the supplier of natural gas to participants in its Natural Gas Aggregation Program, according to a letter sent to residents and small businesses throughout the city last week.

Botkins school is on the move

For Botkins Local School reading specialist Michele Meyer, moving into the new school building has gone “pretty well, thanks to extra hands.”

During their winter break, several of her sixth graders have been helping with the moving process, which she has been preparing for since before this school year started.

The arrow ... and only the arrow ... will lead the way

Of all the intersections in Wapakoneta, the one at Pearl, Bellefontaine and Wood streets may be the hardest to figure out.

Coming west along Bellefontaine Street, some drivers have sat in the turn lane onto Pearl Street waiting for the arrow to turn green, only to be honked at by drivers who assume you can turn because of another traffic light that sits directly above the lane, which is often green when the other light is red. 

Four escape house fire

CRIDERSVILLE — Firefighters responded to a structure fire early Friday morning at 200 N. Waverly St., in the village.

According to Cridersville Fire Chief Rick Miller, the call came in at 4:09 a.m. Upon arrival, firefighters reported heavy fire involvement in the upstairs rear bedroom area. All four occupants of the building walked out on their own and were out by the time firefighters arrived. There were no injuries.

Leaders share goals for 2015

With the new year upon us, the Wapakoneta Daily News wanted to know what goals city and county officials hope to achieve in 2015, and how they plan to accomplish them. 

Wapakoneta Mayor Rodney Metz listed three projects he said the city should complete within the next year. 

Remembering those who left us - Wapakoneta’s first councilwoman

As the first woman to ever sit on the Wapakoneta City Council, Ruth Carter paved the way for women in local government.

“She considered herself a pioneer who broke new barriers because it was all men for 50 years until she was elected,” her husband Joe Carter said. 

On Sunday, Sept. 14, Ruth Carter died at Auglaize Acres of natural causes and complications from Alzheimer’s. She was 83 years old.

Redskins’ winning season tops list

The Wapakoneta Daily News presents its selection for the top local stories of 2014. The selections were made by the newsroom with a final vote by WDN staff members. With a dominating defense, a versatile offense and sound special teams, the 2014 Wapakoneta Redskins varsity football team was the most accomplished in school history.

eXtreme Dance Center, on 15041 Wapak Fisher Road, is giving five local girls the opportunity to dance live at tonight’s Orange Bowl halftime show in Miami, Fla.

Court date set in leak probe

The August gas leak at AIP Logistics Inc., 300 Industrial Drive, in Wapakoneta, has led to a temporary restraining order, so the corporation can come to compliance with federal law, as well as a Feb. 19 court hearing in the Common Pleas Courtroom.

County honors retiring engineers

An open house was held Monday afternoon to celebrate the retirements of Auglaize County Bridge Engineer Dan Bennett, Road Superintendent Rick Miller and Bridge Superintendent Bill Piehl.

The three have worked a combined 114 years for the county.

“There isn’t a mile of county road that hasn’t been improved by their efforts over the past several decades,” Auglaize County Engineer Douglas Reinhart said.
