Sitting cross legged on top of the kitchen table with her younger sister having a picnic of cheesepuffs and juice, there are no signs of the devastating disease 6-year-old Mara Moon is facing.
But when she was 3, Mara, with her sparkling eyes and constant smile, began getting sick. She experienced several episodes of severe vomiting, accompanied by flu-like symptoms and lethargy. She would re-experience these same symptoms a few weeks later, in a cycle that continued every month.
Plans for a permanent Auglaize County dog shelter are still in the works but construction will be delayed until funding is available, the Auglaize County commissioners told the Auglaize County dog warden.
CRIDERSVILLE — Cridersville Village Council members discussed the possibility of renovating the ball diamonds at Tower Park and decided this is a project they want to complete this year — the sooner the better.
Tower Park is the home to three softball diamonds, which need some major updating and fixing.
“We need to make an effort to improve the diamonds,” Cridersville Mayor Lorali Myers said. “This is an opportunity for children to utilize the diamonds and to have adult softball teams visit our town.”
K. Lenore Shappell, 99, of Cridersville, died at 9:57 a.m. Friday, Jan. 27, 2012, at St. Ritaâ€™s Medical Center in Lima.
Services are at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Bayliff & Son Funeral Home in Cridersville, with the Rev. David Thompson officiating. Burial will follow at St. Matthew Cemetery.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Paul E. Cales, 71, 11190 Schroeder Road, Lot 13, St. Marys, formerly of Dayton and Sidney, died unexpectedly at 6:56 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 26, 2012, at Joint Township District Memorial Hospital in St. Marys.
He was born April 11, 1940, in Greenup, Ky., the son of Esta (Henson) and Henry Cales. On June 4, 1988, he married Bobbie Sue Neth and she survives at the residence.
John Ernest Henry, 87, of Lima, died at 8:30 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 25, 2012, at his residence.
He was born July 23, 1924; the son of Lois Carlous and George Henry. On Oct. 31, 1942, he married Freda A. Davis, who survives in Lima.
Also surviving is a son, Daniel J. â€śDanâ€ť Henry, of Lima; and a daughter, Sarah Rose Kuhns, of Lima.
Services are at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Bayliff & Son Funeral Home in Cridersville, with the Rev. Terry Davy officiating. Burial will follow in Shawnee Cemetery with Military Rites conducted by VFW Post 8445.
Wilbur W. Warner, 90 1110 Nagel Street, St. Marys, died at 9:07 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 25, 2012, at Joint Township District Memorial Hospital in St. Marys.
He was born Nov. 19, 1921, in New Bremen, the son of Flora (Lutterbein) and Raleigh Warner. On June 4, 1949, he married Jean Blank and she survives at the residence.
Also surviving is a daughter, Mary Bell, of Evanston, Ill.
He was preceded in death by an infant brother, Edwin Warner.
Fred Aukerman Jr., 81, a resident of Otterbein St. Marys Retirement Community, formerly of Findlay, died Wednesday, Jan. 25, 2012, at Mercer County Community Hospital in Coldwater.
He was born Aug. 19, 1930, in Wabash, Ind., the son of Fred H. B. and Ruby (Keefer) Aukerman. On June 5, 1955, at Oak Grove Church of God in Columbia City, Ind., he married Arline E. Hawn, and she survives at the residence in St. Marys.
Also surviving are two sons, Hugh Aukerman, of Celina, and Roger Aukerman, of Normal, Ill.; and a daughter, Betty Kennedy, of Wooster.
Albert W. Allenbach, age 82, of Lima, died at 5:50 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 25, 2012, at Wyngate Senior Living Center in Lima.
He was born Feb. 10, 1929, in Holmes County, the son of Marie Mishler and Christian Allenbach. On Feb. 14, 1953, he married Dorothy J. Urwin, who survives in Lima.
Surviving are three sons, Chris Allenbach, of Lima, Keith Allenbach, of Gahanna, and Brian Allenbach, of Lima; and two daughters, Linda Wilkerson, of Sagamore Hills, and Debora Gray of Navarre.
Byron Lloyd Parlette, 75, of Longview, Wash., passed away Nov. 23, 2011, at his home.
He was born Nov. 12, 1936, in Uniopolis, the son of the late Opal (Spees) and Lee Parlette. In 1960, he married Glenna Adkins, who passed away in 1975.
Surviving are two daughters, Peggy Bell, of Corinth, Maine, and Barbara (Carl) Diebler, of Bucyrus; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren.; two sisters, Judy (James) Stingel, and Joan (Dean) Bussart; and two brothers, Gordon L. (Virginia) Parlette, and Jack (Mary) Parlette.
