Village moves forward

November 14, 2014

Buckland Village Council met for its regular monthly meeting Thursday evening.

Mayor Dan Lambert shared information from Andrew Shuman of Choice One Engineering in Sidney regarding replacement of the roof on the sewer building at the south end of the village.

Concerns were raised at the Sept. 11 meeting about the pitch on part of the roof, which was judged as being too flat to be able to handle an accumulation of snow.

Mystery comes to Wapakoneta

Brush up on those detective skills by joining the Wapakoneta Theatre Club this weekend for their murder mystery dinner theatre, My Fatal Valentine.

The show will be Friday and Saturday night at 6 p.m. at the Wapakoneta Country Club. Tickets are $20 for general admission, $30 for couples and $10 for students. Tickets have been for sale, but those who have yet to purchase one are still welcome.

Community reacts to allegations

The ex-couple charged with a combined 79 counts including rape, sexual battery and numerous other sex charges had been involved in the community and were known by many. 

Lori Ann Anderson, 50, has been a first- through third grade teacher at Cridersville Elementary School for 27 years before being charged Friday on allegations that she raped her son in 1999. She has been suspended without pay by the school district. 

County host to big move

More than your average wide load.

A rigging and transportation company moved a vehicle that weighs over 882,000 pounds, is 25-feet wide, 18-feet high and 300-feet long through the county Wednesday and today on its way to Lima.

Barnhart Crane and Rigging made the move in support of an expansion project at the Potash Corporation’s Lima plant.

Coaches go all out to help team

Everybody knows the story behind the undefeated Wapakoneta Redskins. What people might not know is the men partially responsible for the great 2014 season.

More in particular, three coaches; Mike Voll, Mike Hartz and Cody Cooper. All three are assistant coaches for Redskins’ head varsity football coach Travis Moyer as well as an assistant for him in the days when Moyer was a coach for the Wynford Royals.

Capable offenses with big playmakers set to meet

SIDNEY — Friday’s matchup features some big-play potential by both offenses.

The Wapakoneta Redskins are coming off of a season-high scoring output after its 49-14 win over Talawanda.

The Tippecanoe Red Devils, meanwhile, are averaging just under 40 points per game for the 2014 season.

Couple professes innocence

The lawyer representing Lori Ann Anderson, the Cridersville Elementary School teacher charged with 25 counts including rape and sexual battery, confirmed Wednesday that the alleged victim is her son, and maintains that his client is innocent of all charges.

Students honor veterans

Every year, the Wapakoneta Middle School students and faculty hosts a celebration honoring area veterans for their service and dedication to the United Stated of America. And every year the ceremony is a little bit different but always has the same special feeling to it, as was the case Tuesday as the school hosted its 11th annual Veterans Day Celebration.

Agency seeks website redesign

The state of the Auglaize County Health Department website was a topic of discussion during the Board of Health meeting Tuesday morning.

The board hopes to have the site redesigned and listened to two design proposal presentations during the meeting.

Back on Sunday, Oct. 19, my wife Emmie and I went as usual to 11 a.m. Mass at St. Joe Church. We enjoyed the music before and listened attentively to the scripture readings – but – when it came to the Psalm 19 before the gospel of St. Paul to the Thessalonians, it perked up a long-ago memory of some 50 or more years ago.
