SIDNEY — A mistake prone freshman game made all the difference in creating the eventual1995 Heisman Trophy winner and a 10,000-yard rusher in the NFL.
But the mistakes in the game did not create the player nor the man whom Eddie George would become, he says — the way he responded to the adversity of that day did.
A fire at Lakeside Estates trailer park at approximately 10:30 a.m. Saturday completely destroyed a house trailer and caused damage to another.
The St. Johns Fire Department was called to the scene Saturday and found the trailer totally engulfed in flames.
St. Johns Fire Chief Rodney Campbell said the house trailer was collapsing by the time firefighters could get to the scene.
The damage to the house trailer owned by Dian Sekason, Lot 18, is said to be a total loss. A vehicle owned by Sekason also was ruled a total loss.
A suspect continues to be questioned in connection with a string of burglaries that occurred over the past couple months in the area.
The suspect was tracked down after a recent break-in and has been questioned several times regarding that break-in and other break-ins in the county, Auglaize County Sheriffâ€™s Office Detective Sgt. Jerry Sawmiller told the Wapakoneta Daily News.

Michael Rosebrock scored nine unanswered points in a 12-0 third-quarter run to lift the Ottawa-Glandorf Titans to a 52-34 win over the Wapakoneta Redskins in a Western Buckeye League varsity boys basketball game Friday night at Wapakoneta High School.
With the score tied at 22-22 early in the second half, Rosebrook broke loose cutting to the basket, grabbing a pair of field goals and converting five of six from the free throw line to make it a 31-22 Titans lead midway through the third quarter.
BOTKINS â€” The 12-2 Russia Raidersâ€™ slid by with a close 60-59 victory over the Botkins Trojans in Shelby County League action Friday night at Botkins High School.
The Trojans took a 44-39 lead into the fourth quarter, but the Raiders were not about to give up anything. Raising its level of intensity on defense, Russia managed to force a few much-needed turnovers late in the quarter to pull out the win.
Sitting cross legged on top of the kitchen table with her younger sister having a picnic of cheesepuffs and juice, there are no signs of the devastating disease 6-year-old Mara Moon is facing.
But when she was 3, Mara, with her sparkling eyes and constant smile, began getting sick. She experienced several episodes of severe vomiting, accompanied by flu-like symptoms and lethargy. She would re-experience these same symptoms a few weeks later, in a cycle that continued every month.
Plans for a permanent Auglaize County dog shelter are still in the works but construction will be delayed until funding is available, the Auglaize County commissioners told the Auglaize County dog warden.
CRIDERSVILLE — Cridersville Village Council members discussed the possibility of renovating the ball diamonds at Tower Park and decided this is a project they want to complete this year — the sooner the better.
Tower Park is the home to three softball diamonds, which need some major updating and fixing.
“We need to make an effort to improve the diamonds,” Cridersville Mayor Lorali Myers said. “This is an opportunity for children to utilize the diamonds and to have adult softball teams visit our town.”
K. Lenore Shappell, 99, of Cridersville, died at 9:57 a.m. Friday, Jan. 27, 2012, at St. Ritaâ€™s Medical Center in Lima.
Services are at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Bayliff & Son Funeral Home in Cridersville, with the Rev. David Thompson officiating. Burial will follow at St. Matthew Cemetery.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Arrangements are incomplete at the funeral home.
Paul E. Cales, 71, 11190 Schroeder Road, Lot 13, St. Marys, formerly of Dayton and Sidney, died unexpectedly at 6:56 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 26, 2012, at Joint Township District Memorial Hospital in St. Marys.
He was born April 11, 1940, in Greenup, Ky., the son of Esta (Henson) and Henry Cales. On June 4, 1988, he married Bobbie Sue Neth and she survives at the residence.
