KAPOW car show grows each year

Cars and crafts will be the focus of an upcoming event to benefit local children in Wapakoneta.

The KAPOW (Kids, A Priority of Wapakoneta) will be hosting its third annual Car Show, Craft Show and Flea Market from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 25 outside of the Armstrong Air and Space Museum.

Wapak youth volunteers summer at local library

A local student has had a busy summer with a number of activities and volunteering duties, but he also is looking forward to the start of school so he can see his friends more often.

Thirteen-year-old Ryan Schneider, who will be in eighth-grade at Wapakoneta High School this fall, has spent the summer swimming and volunteering at the Auglaize County Public District Library in Wapakoneta.

Elizabeth L. "Betty" Mouk, 66

Elizabeth L. “Betty” Mouk, 66, of 203 Warren St., Botkins, passed away peacefully on Saturday, Aug. 11, 2012, at 3:05 p.m. at the Kindred Hospital, in Lima.
Betty was born Feb. 24, 1946, in Lima, to the late Clem Limbert and Bertha (Ramge) Limbert. On Aug. 25, 1973, she married Kenneth L. Mouk, and he died April 21, 1999.

Juanita R. Ramga, 82

Juanita R. Ramga, 82, of rural Cridersville, died at 6 p.m. Friday, Aug. 10,2012, in the Kindred Hospital, in Lima, following complications from surgery.
She was born April 30, 1930, in Lima, a daughter of Martha Godwin and Paul R. Binkley, who preceded her in death.
On March 29, 1974, she married Carl F. Ramga, who died Oct. 4, 1985.

Carl Jay "Jay Bird" Cummins, 44

Carl Jay “Jay Bird” Cummins, 44, died at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 11, 2012, at Lima Memorial Health System following an accident earlier in the day.
He was born Jan. 5, 1968, in St. Marys.
Carl is survived by his father, Garry Cummins, of Harrod.
Funeral services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Wednesday at Armentrout Funeral Home, in Waynesfield, with the Rev. Don Smith officiating.
Burial is to follow at Willow Branch Cemetery.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Hanford “Hank” Martin, 67

August 10, 2012

Hanford “Hank” Martin, 67, of Middlesboro, Ky., passed away Friday, Aug. 10, 2012, at his home.
He was born in Clear Creek, Ky. on March 22, 1945, to the late Gladys (Mason) and Canis Dee Martin. He was a member of the Hensley Chapel Baptist Church.
Mr. Martin worked at Trim Treads, of Spencerville, for 35 years. He loved his family and the Lord.
He was married to Phyllis Martin for 35 years.

George J. Rostorfer Jr., 90

August 10, 2012

George J. Rostorfer Jr., 90 of rural Wapakoneta died at 10:45 a.m. Aug. 10, 2012, at Heartland of Indian Lake, Lakeview after an extended illness.
He was born on Aug. 1, 1922, in Wapakoneta to Laura (Knoch) and George Rostorfer who preceded him in death.
On Nov. 7, 1947, he married Lorraine F. Ellis who survives.
Survivors also include two sons; Fred (Diane) and Frank (Debra) Rostorfer, both of Wapakoneta, five grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, a brother and a sister.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Jill, and three sisters.

Life has taken a lot of unexpected twists for the man who was recently named pastor of the Uniopolis and St. Johns United Methodist churches.

Little did the man leading two churches, David Moore, realize early on in his life how the sport he loved would shape the way he loved.

A native of Lexington, Ky., Moore played high school baseball at Lafayette High School, a fairly successful program that has produced 10 minor leaguers, including current Major League Baseball player Austin Kearns.

Petition certified, another not for election

A petition to surrender corporate power in Uniopolis was certified during a special meeting Friday of the Auglaize County Elections Board, while one to allow Sunday alcohol sales at a Waynesfield establishment was not certified.

The petition for the village of Uniopolis to surrender it’s corporation and dissolve needed 37 valid signatures to be certified by the Elections Board. With 60 valid signatures obtained, the petition is to appear on the November ballot.

Eagle Scout completes bridge before moving

While a former Wapakoneta High School student may have transferred to a school in Arkansas, members of a school activity will long remember and appreciate one of the last tasks he did.

Cody Wilges, the son of Gwen and Ed Wilges,  recently completed a bridge in the nature center behind the high school for his Eagle Scout project.

“I talked to the cross country kids and asked them if they could use a bridge for their meets and practices,” Wilges said. “They said, ‘Yes.’ ”
