Rose Keith, 93

June 5, 2012

Rose E. Keith, 93, 231 S. Main St., St. Marys, died at 4:39 p.m. Sunday, June 3, 2012 at Joint Township District Memorial Hospital in St. Marys.
She was born April 9, 1919, in Lily, Ky., the daughter of Mary (Hoskins) and George Thompson. In 1953, she married Elmer Keith, and he died April 9, 1978.
Surviving are three daughters, Irene Tuttle, of Middletown, Cheryl Simms, of St. Marys, and Vivian June Keith, of St. Marys.
She was preceded in death by infant twin sons Ronny and Donny Thompson.

Richard Place, 87

Richard E. “Dick” Place, 87, of rural Cridersville, died at 8:35 a.m. Sunday, June 3, 2012, at the Otterbein-Cridersville Senior Living Center.
He was born Jan. 23, 1925, in Spencerville, the son of Sylvia I. (Sutton) and Arthur L. Place. On May 20, 1950, he married Beryl M. Patterson, who survives.
Also surviving are three daughters, Cindy Newcomer, of Lima, Becky Rider, of Elida, and Melinda Bryan, of Dublin.

Emalynn Wofford, stillborn

June 5, 2012

Emalynn Jean Wofford is the cherished stillborn daughter of Cody and Erika Wofford, of Fort Benning, Ga. She became a precious child of God at 7:50 p.m. Thursday, May 31, 2012, at Lima Memorial Health Systems in Lima.
Emalynn Jean will always be lovingly remembered by her maternal grandparent, Heather Myers Poynter, and paternal grandparents Bobby Wofford and Ronnie Wofford Sr., all of Wapakoneta.

Kenneth Lutz, 76

Kenneth D. Lutz, 76, 260 N. Spruce St., St. Marys, died at 6:25 p.m. Friday, June 1, 2012 at his residence.
He was born Feb. 4, 1936, in St. Marys, to Alice (Schmidt) and Charles Lutz. On Sept. 9, 1960, in St. Marys, he married J. Gale McGlothen, who died June 24, 1911.
Surviving are a son, Steven Lutz, of Liberty Township; and two daughters, Dr. Lori Lutz, of Marietta, and Kendra Lutz of Greenfield, Ind.
Services are at 11 a.m. Thursday at Zion Lutheran Church in St. Marys. Private family burial will take place at Resthaven Memory Gardens near Moulton.

Gerelda Anthony, 83

Gerelda “Gerry” Anthony, 83, of Wapakoneta, died at 4:50 p.m. Friday, June 1, 2012, at her residence surrounded by her loving family.
She was born Dec. 3, 1928, in Wapakoneta, the daughter of Lillian (Morscheck) and Frederick J. Wahrer, who preceded her in death. On Sept. 19, 1953, she married John L. Anthony, and he survives.

Virginia Fry, 93

June 5, 2012

Virginia V. Fry, 93, of Wapakoneta, died at 10:15 p.m. Friday, June 1, 2012, at the Wapakoneta Manor.
She was born Dec. 3, 1918, in Logan Township, Auglaize County, the daughter of Blanche (McCord) and William Cook, who preceded her in death. On June 20, 1940, she married Robert E. Fry, and he died Sept. 25, 2008.

Flooded with problems: SSD to attend seminar dealing with flooding issues

A city administrators says he hopes to learn more about state and federal requirements calling for the demolition of structures existing in a flood plain if the structure sustains more than 50 percent damage during an event.

Safety-Service Director Bill Rains is scheduled  to attend a conference on the matter next week in Columbus to gain a firmer grasp on the policy and to report back to Mayor Rodney Metz and Wapak-oneta City Council members.

10 from Wapak arrested in drug operation

Seventeen people, including 10 from Wapakoneta, have been arrested on various drug charges after a five-month investigation by the Grand Lake Drug Task Force.

In a news release this morning, Auglaize County Sheriff Al Solomon said 19 people have been indicted by an Auglaize County grand jury.

The busts covered a variety of hard drugs including the sale of heroin, crack cocaine, powder cocaine, bath salts and prescription medications. Two vehicles were impounded and a substantial amount of powder cocaine and drug paraphernalia was recovered.

Retiring teacher loved teaching sixth grade

A teacher who started out as a physical education instructor found her passion to be teaching sixth-grade language arts.

Paula Quatman, who  recently retired from the Wapakoneta City School District, enjoyed being a sixth-grade teacher at Wapakoneta Middle School.

“I love being a sixth-grade teacher,” Quatman said. “It’s an interesting age. They are eager to learn. They understand humor and are pretty sweet kids.”
