ADA —  The Wapakoneta Redskins boys basketball team won a key bounce-back game in convincing fashion Friday night, defeating the Ada Bulldogs, 74-26.

Keith Palmer, 72

Keith A. Palmer, 72, of Wapakoneta, died at 2:49 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 6, 2012 at Lima Memorial Health Systems.
He was born June 19, 1940 in Lansing, Mich., the son of the late Vera (Watkins) and Kenneth Palmer. He married Alice Myers and she survives.

Sally E. VanHorn, 79

Sally E. VanHorn, 79, of Wapakoneta, died at 2:51 a.m. Friday, Dec. 7, 2012, at Wapakoneta Manor.
She was born Aug. 28, 1933, in Detroit, Mich., to Marian (Wiedock) and Donald Kipp, who preceded her in death.
She was married to Charles Barlow and Max VanHorn, who both preceded her in death.
She was beloved to Paul Klima, who survives in Wapakoneta.
Also surviving are a daughter, Vicki Barlow Kudla, of Michigan; two sons, John Barlow, of Michigan, and Charles Barlow, of Florida; and three grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Michael Barlow.

Local earns ‘Patriotism Award’

A behind the scenes local man recently received recognition for all his hard work and dedication and for demonstrating his love for God and his country.
Tom Moran, of Wapakoneta, was awarded the 2012 Patriotism Award through the 4th degree Knights of Columbus at the club’s annual holiday party this past weekend at the Knights of Columbus hall in Versailles.

Vets hold holiday

The Wapakoneta veterans organizations got together to host the fifth annual Christmas party for local disabled military veterans at the Wapakoneta V.F.W. post Friday.
“It is just a way of honoring veterans with special needs so they know they are not forgotten,” said Wanda Link, president of the Wapakoneta Amvets Ladies Auxiliary.

Drug makers nabbed

An anonymous tip led to the arrest Thursday evening of two Wapakoneta men for multiple drug charges following a multi-agency law enforcement investigation.
Kristopher Sandven, 23, and Christopher Brant, 19, 30A W. Auglaize St., were both charged with manufacturing a controlled substance, a second-degree felony, possession of methamphetamines, a fifth-degree felony, and cultivation of marijuana, a third-degree misdemeanor. They were incarcerated at the Auglaize County Jail.
The pair is being held without bond after a hearing Friday before Municipal Judge Gary Herman.
