Update: Wapakoneta juvenile reported missing

A 13-year-old girl was reported missing from her Wapakoneta home at 5:43 a.m. on Friday, June 27.

According to the Wapakoneta Police Department report, Jessica Schlegel, 13, of 417 South Pine St., was reported missing by her father, David Schlegel, of the residence.

She was last seen at 7 p.m. on Thursday, June 26.

Jessica was entered into a nationwide missing person's database as a missing juvenile.

Numerous locations have been checked, including her mother's residence in Lima.

Mobile meth lab discovered on I-75

A mobile methamphetamine lab was found after Ohio State Highway Patrol officials pulled over a vehicle on northbound I-75 near milepost 117 at 8:58 p.m. Saturday, south of Cridersville.

Sergeant John Westerfield, with the Ohio State Highway Patrol Wapakoneta Post, said two individuals, ages 25 and 26, both of New Bremen, were in the 2000 Chrysler Sebring, which was pulled over for a speed violation.

The vehicle contained drugs, drug paraphernalia, a semi-automatic handgun and a semi-automatic assault rifle, which were not loaded.

House, car fires keep crews busy

The Wapakoneta Fire Department responded to a house fire at 17470 Hauss Road in Wapakoneta at 10:02 a.m. on Saturday, June 28.

According to the report, the back half addition of the one story ranch-style house was fully involved in fire on arrival, with all occupants out of the residence. No injuries were reported.

Relay for Life honors victims, survivors

“Cancer never sleeps, so why should we?”

The motto of the American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life rang true at the Auglaize County Fairgrounds this weekend.

Hundreds gathered from 6 p.m. Friday evening to noon on Saturday to stand up against cancer by raising money, honoring those who have lost their battle and recognizing those who have conquered.

A night to include games, face painting, music, a luminaria ceremony and of course, walking, all began with an opening ceremony followed by a survivor lap around the track.

Doctor’s office expanding

The Auglaize Family Practice Center is currently undergoing a remodel in an effort to create a more inviting environment for patients, Office Administrator Amy Hoyt said.

Before starting the remodel, a wall separated the receptionist area from the patient waiting room. Patients who walked in would speak to the receptionist through a glass window and would have to pass through a narrow hallway before entering the staff area.

Frances Geraldine Grubb, 71

June 27, 2014

Frances Geraldine Grubb, 71, of Denton, Texas, passed away on Wednesday, June 25, 2014. She was born on Jan. 18, 1943, in Prince William County, Va., to Willard Ermal Acord and Freda Irene Holbrook Acord.

A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, July 1, 2014, at 2:30 pm in the Chapel of DeBerry Funeral Directors.

Diane Davenport, 57

June 27, 2014

Diane Davenport, 57, of Uniopolis, died Thursday, June 26, 2014, at her home. She was born Aug. 30, 1956, in Lima, to the late Walter and Dorothy Carter Davenport.

Diane had worked at Huffy and DTR. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, her grandchildren and planning family functions.

Ferd R. Link, 94

June 27, 2014

Ferd R. Link, 94, of Wapakoneta, died at 7:23 a.m. on Friday, June 27, 2014, at Auglaize Acres. He was born Jan. 24, 1920,  Moulton Township, Auglaize County, the son of Ferdinand and Nellie (Wheeler) Link, who preceded him in death. On Nov. 17, 1943, he married Betty J. Berg, and she died Aug. 2, 2006.

Firework displays abound

Going out with a bang, the St. Joe Festival will conclude its Fourth of July activities with a fireworks display, beginning at 11 p.m. at the Auglaize County Fairgrounds. 

The grandstands will be opened up to those on the grounds for viewing. According to St. Joe Festival Chair Mike Wurst, the display has lasted an approximate half hour in previous years. Wurst said he has received “rave reviews” of the festival’s fireworks display.

St. Joe Festival kicks off 4th events

For the 64th year St. Joseph Catholic Church will be holding their annual July 4 Festival at the Auglaize County Fairgrounds July 3 and 4.

The festival begins on July 3 at 4 p.m. and goes until 9:30 p.m. On Friday July 4 the festival starts off strong with the Firecracker 5K at 9 a.m. The fun continues all day Friday ending with fireworks at 11 p.m.
